Mi Salud
Genómica

Many diseases have a genetic origin. The aim of this DNA sequencing and preventive medicine initiative is to prevent and treat actionable conditions.

The power of data

The programme analyses participants’ genomes to identify potential genetic predispositions to certain actionable conditions, including specific types of cancer and type 2 diabetes. Integrated into the Sanitas digital ecosystem and combined with the latest technologies—including artificial intelligence and wearable devices—these analyses provide precise, personalized insights that help design more targeted treatments and prevent or delay the onset of disease. Throughout the process, customers are supported by Sanitas’ medical team.

5P Medicine Model

The Mi Salud Genómica programme is the leading example of Sanitas’ evolution towards the medicine of the 5 Ps.

Preventive

Ongoing research makes it possible to identify potential health issues before they arise, shifting the focus of medicine towards promoting health and preventing disease.

Personalised

The analytical capabilities of AI, combined with data from genetic analysis and other sources, enable the company to tailor treatments and health plans to each individual in a truly unique way.

Precise

Genetic information enables Sanitas to identify potential conditions with greater accuracy, making it possible to design more precise treatments.

Predictive

DNA analysis helps anticipate potential future health risks.

Participatory

Genomic analysis reflects a new type of healthcare user that Sanitas actively promotes: informed, empowered and actively involved in managing their own health.

Personalized plans

A blood or saliva sample is used to perform a full genome sequencing, enabling the analysis of genetic variants and the identification of potential alterations associated with disease. The programme focuses exclusively on actionable conditions—those that can be treated, prevented, or whose onset or impact can be delayed or reduced. It does not assess the risk of conditions for which no treatment or preventive measures are available. Based on the results, each participant receives a comprehensive genomic report.

A genetic counsellor then reviews the findings with the participant. Once the results have been explained, a Preventive Genomic Programme is launched, supported by a physician who develops a personalized plan based on healthy, sustainable nutrition and physical activity tailored to the individual’s needs.

If genome sequencing identifies any abnormality or risk indicator, the participant is referred to a specialist medical team and, where appropriate, additional diagnostic tests are arranged to detect, monitor, or rule out the potential condition.

The results are incorporated into the participant’s medical record within Sanitas Hospitals, making them accessible to the relevant medical specialists and supporting a comprehensive approach to the prevention of genetically linked diseases.
