Joint Commission International
For many years, four of Sanitas’ five hospitals have been accredited by Joint Commission International, widely recognised as the gold standard for hospital quality and patient safety:
  • Sanitas La Zarzuela University Hospital, Madrid
  • Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, Madrid
  • Sanitas Virgen del Mar University Hospital, Madrid
  • Sanitas CIMA Hospital, Barcelona
Blua Sanitas Valdebebas Hospital is currently working towards this accreditation. In addition, the Alameda Residential Care Home achieved Joint Commission International accreditation in 2025.
Merco Ranking

Four of Sanitas’ five hospitals also feature in the Top 15 of the Merco Health Hospitals ranking, the prestigious healthcare reputation ranking for public and private hospitals within Spain’s National Health System.

Sanitas Dental Star Awards

The Sanitas Dental Star Awards recognise innovation and clinical excellence among dentists, stomatologists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons. With total prize awards of more than €40,000, the awards are open to the entire dental community in Spain, whether they collaborate with Sanitas or work at other healthcare organisations.
More than 80 case studies from professionals across the country were entered into the 8th edition of the awards, which was marked by the exceptionally high clinical standard of the projects presented.

Award winners

Expert Category

  • Winner: Dr Carlos Sancho – Bimaxillary rehabilitation in severe atrophy using digital techniques.
  • Runner-up: Dr Carlos Gómez – Rehabilitation of severe tooth wear in the digital era: a multidisciplinary, minimally invasive approach.

Academic Category

  • Winner: Dr Tomasso Conforti – Perio-prosthodontic treatment in a patient with severe erosion and Stage IV, Grade C periodontitis.
  • Runner-up: Dr Marta Reyes – Aesthetic management of triangular teeth, microdontia, diastemas and black triangles in the upper anterior region using the Bioclear technique and lithium disilicate crowns.

Daily Clinic Category

  • Winner: Dr Jorge González Villaumbrosía – Treatment of skeletal open bite through molar intrusion using aligners and mini-screws.
  • Runner-up: Dr Jaime Hernanz – Treatment of multiple gingival recessions using the Modified Tunnel Coronally Advanced Flap technique.

Sanitas Foundation MIR and EIR Awards

Created in 1996, the Sanitas MIR Award aims to recognise and promote young talent in healthcare. The award honours the Medical Resident (MIR) who has demonstrated outstanding achievement during their specialist training in a hospital. More than 200 MIR-accredited hospitals took part in this latest edition of the awards. The Sanitas EIR Award also seeks to promote merit and excellence in the nursing profession. It recognises the Nurse Resident (EIR) who has distinguished themselves during their specialist training. The award is now in its fourth edition.
