Transparency and business ethics drive Sanitas’ commitment to responsible and sustainable operations. All actions are governed by a robust internal control system that ensures effectiveness, reliability and adherence to the values and principles guiding every aspect of our work.
GRI 3-3
A strong supply chain
At Sanitas, we involve all stakeholders to maximise the impact of our sustainability goals. We therefore work with suppliers whose policies on transparency, human and labour rights align with our own. These suppliers become true partners, helping us to reduce the environmental impact of our operations by using renewable energy and reducing our consumption of plastic and paper.

Collaboration and monitoring
Supplier policy
The selection, contracting and management processes are defined by guidelines based on our Code of Ethics and conduct.
Control and supervision
We conduct regular follow-ups to ensure compliance with fraud prevention, financial solvency, supplier assessment, compliance reporting and ethical certification standards.
Regular meetings
We hold regular meetings with key non-healthcare suppliers to align our purchasing strategies with our net zero 2040 target.
Certifications
We prioritise certifications such as ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 27000 (information security management) and ISO 13485 (quality of medical products).
Local suppliers
Nearly all our suppliers (96%) are based in Spain, accounting for 97% of our transaction volume. We do not work with suppliers from countries that breach international human rights agreements.
Supplier portal
A dedicated platform centralises and records all supplier-related activities.
Reporting and accountability
Sanitas reports on sustainability criteria in audits conducted by PwC, which verify our commitment to transparency, social responsibility and ethical practices.
-
Non-Financial Information Statements (NFIS)
These reports cover activities relating to staff, human rights, labour rights, environmental impact, equality, and anti-corruption measures.
-
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

-
Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)
From 2024 onwards, we also report on the environmental and social impact of our operations in line with the CSRD.
-
Global Compact
Sanitas has been a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact since 2007, promoting corporate responsibility through its Ten Principles. We integrate these principles into our strategy, fulfilling our responsibilities to people and the planet wherever we operate.
